Our Ethos & Ingredients
Our Ethos & Ingredients
We believe fragrance should be created with the same care and consideration as the things we put into our bodies.
That means being thoughtful about what goes into every Medeau formula. Our fragrances are vegan, consciously formulated, and created without parabens, phthalates, artificial dyes, nitro musks or animal-derived ingredients.
We avoid ingredients widely associated with irritation or unnecessary environmental impact, and we never use endangered plant species.
Our formulations are guided by modern science as well as independent ingredient databases. Each ingredient used in our fragrances is rated ‘low hazard’ within the EWG Skin Deep database, meaning it is considered to present minimal risk when used as intended in cosmetic formulations.
A common assumption is that natural ingredients are always the better choice. In reality, many natural extracts can trigger hypersensitivity or allergic reactions, and harvesting them at scale can carry a significant environmental cost.
Take rose oil, for example. Producing a single rose can require up to 13 litres of water. When used at industrial scale, this quickly becomes unsustainable.
For this reason, Medeau uses a carefully considered balance of botanicals, bioidentical scent molecules, and advanced aroma compounds that mirror nature while allowing for greater consistency, safety and sustainability.
Every ingredient we use must meet three principles.
Sustainable
We prioritise ingredients that can be produced responsibly at scale. This often means choosing bioengineered or lab-created alternatives to rare or endangered botanicals such as sandalwood.
Considered for Skin
Where natural ingredients are known to cause irritation or sensitivity, we use bioidentical alternatives and carefully selected aroma molecules designed to replicate the same scent profile without the same allergenic potential.
Transparent
We believe modern fragrance should be created with openness and integrity, using ingredients selected with care for both people and planet.
